Position: Human Resources Manager and Intern/Volunteer Program Coordinator
Essential duties:
MIM is looking for an enthusiastic and energetic individual to plan, implement, and manage comprehensive Human Resource functions for MIM staff, Interns, and Volunteers. As a strategic partner in MIM administration, the HR Manager will balance his/her role as an effective advocate for the Museum and its mission, as well as for its staff. The person filling this position will initially report to the President and Director.

Responsibilities:
  • Administer and provide current and prospective employees with information about compensation, benefits, policies, and performance evaluation systems for all museum functions.
  • Develop position descriptions and implement recruiting strategies for MIM team member positions, internships, volunteers, and work-study students. Screen applicants, conduct phone interviews, and conduct reference checks, as requested.
  • Develop and conduct orientation program for team members, interns, and volunteers.
  • Provide point of contact for all interns, including relocation, documentation for credits, etc.
  • Advise managers on organizational policy matters such as equal employment opportunity, sexual harassment, etc. and recommend needed updates/changes.
  • Develop and maintain personnel forms and record-keeping system and procedures for controlling personnel transactions and reporting personnel data.
  • Maintain and update employee handbook.
  • Work with outside counsel to ensure legal compliance of the organization.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree required; advanced degree in Human Resources or management desirable.
  • Minimum of 5 years of experience as an HR generalist.
  • Ability to problem-solve, work independently, and excel in a high performance culture.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Experience with internship programs would be desirable.
  • Strong computer skills in Windows-based applications, including Word, Excel, Outlook
  • Love for world music and musical instruments is a plus!

Other:

  • Located in Tempe, AZ during planning stages of MIM; located in Phoenix, AZ once museum is constructed.
  • Salary is commensurate with education and experience.
  • Evening and weekend work as necessary.
