Professional musicians provide unique educational opportunities for students

At MIM, we see firsthand the impact that music can have on education and development at a young age. Through the Artist Residency Program, MIM works with professional artists to provide engaging educational content for elementary, middle-, and high-school students and teachers.

Six times each year, artists from different musical genres provide four fifty-minute interactive performances at the MIM Music Theater, and students enjoy a self-guided tour of MIM. Although students can view global instruments and listen to recorded music in the galleries, it is the Artist Residency Program that brings music to life. MIM’s intimate, acoustically superb theater offers a fuller experience for students to listen to live music, learn music theory, and discover the power music has on our emotions.

Artist Residency programming for fall 2017 features an exploration of how everyday sounds help people express themselves through music with the Desert Ridge Music Academy on November 16 and 17; a captivating performance including popular music, fiddle music, original compositions, and classical favorites by string trio Simply Three on December 7 and 8; and a performance tracing the musical evolution of instruments by award-winning artist/educator John Zeretzke on December 14 and 15.
