Circle of Friends
Inspirational Benefactors. Instrumental Support.

Get Involved!  |  The Musical Instrument Museum (MIM) depends on various sources of support in order to present world-class exhibitions, concerts, and educational programs to a national and international audience.

Join Us!  |  We hope you'll join us in shaping MIM's future. To that end, we offer several ways for both people and corporations to deepen their involvement through our Circle of Friends donation programs.

Individuals and Families
Businesses and Corporations

As part of our inaugural year, MIM is gratefully recognizing as Founders all individuals, corporations, and foundations that give to the museum at the $5,000 level and above on or before December 31, 2011.

As a result, our founding benefactors will be acknowledged on the MIM Founders Wall with their names permanently engraved into hand-rubbed bronze panels prominently displayed near the Music Theater entrance.

Donating to the Collection  |  The Musical Instrument Museum is building a vast collection of instruments to celebrate the history and diversity of musical culture throughout the world. In keeping with the museum’s mission, MIM strives to collect authentic examples of instruments and, whenever possible, archival materials, photographs, audio, video, and objects related to the instruments being made or used.

If you would like MIM to consider an instrument or object for donation, please submit a written proposal as follows to donate@themim.org:

  • Include your contact information with phone number and e-mail address
  • Photograph(s) of the object(s)
  • Brief description of the object(s), including dimensions
  • Information pertaining to the history and/or acquisition of the
    object(s)

Please do not bring an object to the Musical Instrument Museum before contacting us in writing.

The Acquisitions Committee will review your proposal and determine if the object supports MIM’s exhibits and educational missions. All proposals will receive a response following review, though not all offers can be accepted. Object(s) offered should only be delivered to the museum for further examination at MIM’s request.

Although MIM cannot provide appraisals, donations to MIM may be tax-deductible up to their fair market value. Click here for a list of resources to help you find an appraisal expert in your area.

Thank you for your interest in helping build MIM’s collection. We look forward to sharing a global musical instrument museum experience with you in 2010.
