Volunteer

Volunteers play an integral role in MIM’s success. Becoming a MIM volunteer is a unique opportunity to get involved with this incredible project at inception and become one of its founding volunteers! The minimum age to volunteer at MIM is seventeen years.

Detailed Volunteer Job Descriptions

Volunteers are needed in the following areas:
 
Docents
Docents provide guided educational tours of the museum to school and adult groups. Docents must commit to forty hours of training over a ten-week period. Training topics will include content about the instruments in the collection, architectural facts, presentation skills, effective touring methods, and more!

Gallery Guides
Gallery Guides supplement the MIM Security and Guest Service teams by being the eyes and ears of the galleries, ensuring that all policies are adhered to and providing content-related information about the instruments and general information about the museum. Gallery Guides must commit to a minimum of one shift per week, or every other week.

Guest Service
Guest Service Assistants supplement the Guest Service team by answering general questions about the museum, distributing and explaining the guideport systems for all guests, and assisting with the explanation of MIM policies and procedures for all guests.

Ushers
Ushers assist with Front of House operations for all theater performances. Duties include greeting guests, scanning tickets, directing guests to their seat location, providing general directions and information, and assisting with emergency evacuation procedures as needed. Ushers must commit to two performances per month (approximately six-to-eight hours per month).

Museum Store
Store volunteers assist with all aspects of the Museum Store, including retail operations, display setups, and customer service. Store volunteers are asked to commit to a minimum of one three-hour shift per week, or every other week.
