Some call Carbon Leaf’s music Southern, others label it Celtic and still others say it leans towards bluegrass or some combination of formats. . . . Almost everyone can agree that Carbon Leaf creates music that just isn’t heard anywhere else.
A touring mainstay and indie folk-rock staple, Carbon Leaf brings their latest release, Gathering 2: The Hunting Ground, to MIM’s stage. The Virginia quintet’s musical style drifts between Americana, indie rock, folk, bluegrass, Celtic, and pop traditions. Whether they are plugged in to amplifiers or huddled around a single microphone, Carbon Leaf radiates a warm, magnetic onstage presence that pulls the audience closer. The band uses an array of instruments—acoustic and electric guitars, mandolin, fiddle, banjo, cello, bass, drums, accordion, penny whistle, and rich vocal harmonies—to define its lively stage presence and sonic landscape.
