David Huckfelt:
Singer-songwriter David Huckfelt . . . celebrates both the joy and the sociopolitical power of art.
—No Depression
David Huckfelt is a founding member of indie-folk cult favorites the Pines. He launched his solo career in 2019 with Stranger Angels, a record he wrote at an artist residency on Lake Superior. His artistry lies in the subtle, intimate art of story-weaving and wicked-grin poetry. Huckfelt is a devoted activist and a fierce advocate for Native American issues and artists, and his 2021 release, Room Enough, Time Enough, recorded in Tucson, features a stunning array of collaborators, including Keith Secola, Dave Simonett of Trampled by Turtles, Greg Brown, Jackie Bird, and members of Calexico.
Howe Gelb has been called a “godfather of alt-country” and an “elder ambassador of desert rock.” In three decades, he has mashed together elements of rock, country, blues, punk, garage, lo-fi, jazz, gospel, avant-garde noise, and flamenco. His latest releases explore the piano standard, blending Leonard Cohen, Thelonious Monk, Pinetop Perkins, and Lou Reed.
