Haley Heynderickx’s intricate indie-folk songwriting is vivid, crushingly intimate, melodically inventive, and completely unpredictable. Her debut album I Need to Start a Garden seamlessly contrasts her unconventional tunings and soft, American primitive–inspired fingerpicking with enveloping sonic outbursts. Led by Heynderickx’s raw, immersive vocals, the Portland songwriter’s music defies categorization.

Kulululu is a four-piece (sometimes more-piece) band currently based in Tucson. Its music is heavily influenced by new wave, ’80s art rock, punk, free jazz, ’90s garage rock, classical art music, and rock and roll. Live, the group explores a variety of bizarre Dadaist performance antics.
