Before Ellen came out and anyone who wasn’t a Bible scholar knew who Lilith was . . . before Jewel even . . . there was Janis Ian.
—Rolling Stone
A songwriter since age 14, Janis Ian has written some of pop music’s most evergreen songs, such as “Society’s Child,” “At Seventeen,” “Jesse,” and “Stars.” Now, at 70, Ian is embracing a new milestone: the art of the farewell. Set for release on January 21, 2022, on Ian’s Rude Girl Records, The Light at the End of the Line—Ian’s first album of new material in 15 years—will be the folk star’s last studio album, bookending a kaleidoscopic catalog that began with her 1967 self-titled debut. It also sets the stage for what Ian imagines will be her final North America tour.
