Ted Rosenthal . . . opens the piece up, making room for improvising and loosing up the rhythm. That’s when these players really make the ‘Rhapsody’ their own and make it modern again.
Esteemed New York City pianist Ted Rosenthal has performed George Gershwin’s groundbreaking composition Rhapsody in Blue solo and with symphonic and jazz orchestras. Now, he presents a version arranged for jazz trio, plus many more Gershwin classics, to celebrate the 100th anniversary of the beloved piece of American music.
Rosenthal is one of the leading jazz pianists and composers of his generation. He actively tours the world with his trio and as a soloist, and he has performed with many jazz greats, including Gerry Mulligan, Art Farmer, Phil Woods, Bob Brookmeyer, and James Moody. A winner of the Thelonious Monk Institute of Jazz International Piano Competition, Rosenthal has released 15 albums as a bandleader. Rhapsody in Gershwin, which features his jazz trio arrangement of Rhapsody in Blue, reached number one in jazz album sales on iTunes and Amazon.
