He’s someone who knows the value of storytelling as a way to find our shared humanity.

His voice is both gruff and tender (Tom Waits meets Hank Williams) . . . his tunes gorgeous . . . and his lyrics novelistic.

Steve Earle is one of the most gifted and most acclaimed singer-songwriters of his generation and a worthy heir to Townes Van Zandt and Guy Clark, his two supreme musical mentors. Earle has distinguished himself as a master storyteller, and his songs have been recorded by a vast array of artists, including Johnny Cash, Waylon Jennings, Joan Baez, Emmylou Harris, and the Pretenders.
In 1986, Earle’s debut record, the now classic Guitar Town, shot to number one on the country charts. The record earned Earle the first of his 16 Grammy nominations, and three of his records—2004’s The Revolution Starts . . . Now, 2007’s Washington Square Serenade, and 2009’s Townes—have won Grammys for Best Contemporary Folk Album. Restlessly creative across artistic disciplines, Earle is also a published author, an actor on screen and stage, and a celebrated record producer.
Since getting sober in the mid-1990s, Earle has released an album almost every year, LPs that cover bluegrass, blues, folk, country, and more. Jerry Jeff, Earle’s 22nd album, was released in May 2022.
