Rock-solid, freak of genetics harmonies.
—Rolling Stone
The Cactus Blossoms sound uncannily like a sibling harmony act, their voices weaving together in a way that suggests a modern-day version of the Everly Brothers or the Louvin Brothers. Brothers Page Burkum and Jack Torrey broke out of Minneapolis in 2016 with their J. D. McPherson-produced debut You’re Dreaming. Dates with Kacey Musgraves and Jenny Lewis further catapulted the band into the spotlight. In 2018, filmmaker David Lynch tapped the Cactus Blossoms to perform in the return of Twin Peaks, and in 2019 the duo released their sophomore LP, Easy Way.
One Day, the duo’s latest album, explores the tension between optimism and despair that has defined much of the past few years of American life and examines the power of positive thinking in the face of chaos and uncertainty. Its songs are tender and timeless, with straightforward arrangements centered around the brothers’ airtight harmonies, delivered with a soulful, 1970s-inspired palette of playful Wurlitzer organ, breezy guitars, and muscular percussion.
