Producer’s Circle members are invited to a Zoom happy hour with special guest Kevin Eubanks, former leader of The Tonight Show band, at 6:00 p.m. (Arizona Time), Thursday, June 17. Lowell Pickett, artistic director for the MIM Music Theater, and Rich Walter, MIM’s curator for United States / Canada and Europe, join Eubanks for an informal conversation. We’ll also open up the conversation to all of you!
Kevin Eubanks is one of the most accomplished guitar players of his generation and was on his way to a stellar career in jazz when Branford Marsalis asked him to join the new band for Jay Leno’s The Tonight Show. Within a couple of years, he was tapped to be leader of the band, which he did for the next 15 years.
As a young musician straight out of school, Eubanks took New York by storm. His mastery of both straight-ahead and contemporary jazz was apparent, and before long he was working with giants like Art Blakey, Roy Haynes, Sam Rivers, and Dave Holland. He soon had his own contract on trailblazing contemporary jazz label GRP, followed a few years later by a contract with the legendary Blue Note Records. On The Tonight Show he played with seemingly every meaningful musician across all genres and cemented his public persona as a good-humored, quick-witted artist with a master’s touch on the guitar.
He also has a passion for music education and has taught at Banff School for the Arts, Rutgers University, the Thelonious Monk Institute, and has an honorary doctorate from Berklee College of Music.
Producer’s Circle members help bring renowned artists and emerging talents from around the world to the MIM Music Theater for unforgettable live performances—inspiring music fans of all genres.
